NEWPORT BEACH - ENSENADA - APRIL 2006

First 5 Monohull Finishers: in order of arrival
PYEWACKET: (R/P 86ft) After many a glorious race, Roy E. Disney  generously donated to the Orange County for their

School of Sailing and Seamanship.  Driven by Brad Avery & Keith Kilpatrick and Crew.

Though the wind was practically non existent, being by such a graceful and powerful yacht was magical.
MAGNITUDE 80: (Andrews 80) Doug Baker from Long Beach

Barely a whisper of a wind, she was reflecting her stunning  profile in glassy waters.

A fraction of a second later after this shot, a 30ft+ whale decided to interrupt this stillness. We were off San Diego coastline.

Magnitude continued on her course, we chose to shut off engines to watch her dance around the hulls for 30 minutes.
SCOUT SPIRIT (R/P 75) David Janes, Newport Sea Base YC

The crew seemed to make the best of this quiet sail.
LOCOM OTION (Andrews 45) Ed McDowell, King Harbor YC

PELIGROSO : (Dencho 70) Mike Campbell / Dale Williams, LBYC

First 3 Multihull Finishers: in order of arrival
LOE REAL (Jeanneau 60 - MVP) H. E. Enloe, Silver Gate YC.

Refurbished and simplified, this trimaran was elegantly rearing for a ride on the wind.

It was no match to her power. Nonetheless, first to finish in the multihull division.

One may recognize her as the star of ‘Waterworld’!
OTHER BOATS WE ENJOYED DURING THE RACE....
BLUE BLAZES                                                                           MEDICINE MAN (8th to finish)
AFTERBURNER (Malcom Tennant 42) Bill Gibbs, Pierpont Bay YC.

DELTA VEE (Corsair 31), Michael Lenehan from Marina Del Rey,  Fresno YC.

A long time multihull sailor and builder, Michael’s finesse paid off:

3rd to Finish behind Loa Real and Afterburner and First  in corrected time.

WINDQUEST: which unfortunately had to turn around shy of 3 miles from the arrival line due to time commitment...
TAXI DANCER...

catching some Mexican sunrays!

 MERLIN                                                         ANTHEM                                                       ULA KOA
ESCUDERO, (Columbia 30) ...the one that captured the Sun...

driven by Tim Kernan, its designer (Kernan Yacht Design)
MUCH EXCITEMENT AT THE START LINE OF THIS                                       ANNUAL RACE  THAT GATHERS OVER

460 BOATS. UNFORTUNATELY PATIENCE WAS                                              TESTED, A FEW TURNED AROUND.

THE WIND DID NOT JOIN IN THE PARTY LACKING TO OFFER TH E SAIL POWER WE WERE EXPECTING

FOR MANY A DUEL IN STORE BETWEEN STRONG CONTENDERS.... RENDEZ VOUS NEXT YEAR !
